What exactly is a concierge..?
The word 'concierge' is from obscure parentage.
One source says that it comes from the Latin 'con serviens', meaning 'to serve'. Another source says the word evolved from the 12th century French term 'Comte des Cierges', Count of the Candles, a formal term given to a royal officer working for the Palace Conciergerie and having great responsibilities.
Eventually, the name came to stand for the keepers of the keys at public buildings and the concierge became a long established tradition with Grand European hotels.
Today's personal concierge industry developed in the late 1990s. The personal concierge represents a 'doer of all things' within legal and moral limitations, working closely with clients to understand their needs and help them strike the perfect work-life balance.
